Madrid-based artist Ana Juan, author of DIG Festival 2023: “Don’t give up”‘s Watchdog, is the protagonist of a solo exhibition, the largest and most comprehensive ever dedicated to the Spanish artist in Italy. The exhibition, with free admission, will be hosted by the magnificent halls of the Complesso San Paolo in the center of Modena.

In a former Church, the attendants are able to admire a wide selection of Juan’s drawings, including her famous illustrated fables, in which the artist has achieved results of extraordinary intensity and expressive force with her unique use of charcoal.

Additionally, more recent and large-scale works are on display, including the series entitled “The Elements” – large female figures drawn in color on bamboo paper, that take on the evocative power of the four elements; and again, the recent series “Soul”, composed of large graphite drawings on canvas.

A central position in the setting of the Oratory is occupied by the project entitled “Whole and Part,” a puzzle composition composed of 62 independent drawings that, together, constitute at the same time a single large work.

The exhibition also includes many of Ana Juan’s color drawings published by periodical magazines and newspapers, such as The New Yorker, El Pais, Il Sole 24 ore, and a series of cover art drawings for Isabel Allende’s novels.

Completing the exhibition, a number of sculptures and videos that testify to the Spanish artist’s great versatility.

The exhibition “la grande Battaglia” (“the great Battle”) will be accessible during the DIG Festival days from 10am to 8pm; and it will remain open until November 5.
