Digital self-defense for journalists: protecting reporting from threats and intrusions
DESCRIPTION
This workshop is designed for journalists covering political demonstrations, protests, or situations of potential tension with law enforcement. Its goal is to provide concrete tools to safeguard both digital security and rights in the field. Through practical examples, participants will learn digital defense techniques to protect devices, sensitive content, sources, and communications, while minimizing risks of surveillance, searches, or seizure. The session will also examine the technological capabilities of law enforcement, such as accessing data from mobile devices, and explain the fundamental rights guaranteed to journalists, including in cases of detention or identification. The workshop is structured to be accessible to everyone, regardless of technical background, and aims to equip participants with practical, immediately applicable tools for their daily work of documentation and reporting.
