Everyone wants a piece of the Arctic: reporting on neocolonialism and resistance

The Arctic region is, geographically speaking, peripheral, but in recent times it has become increasingly central to the global strategies of major powers. Vast deposits of natural resources and a strategic position for both military and commercial purposes have, in effect, turned the entire Arctic area into a new frontier for conquest and dominance. But at what cost—for local communities, the environment, and the increasingly fragile "Arctic peace" that has prevailed until now? We will discuss several aspects of the tensions and challenges in the Arctic, such as hate and disinformation attacks targeting activists, journalists and others in the Russian Arctic and Sapmi, the resistance of Greenlandic Inuit against mining projects, and the business of Russia in the Region. The panel will also bring together the voices of journalists who have extensively covered this area and the most pressing issues related to it. In collaboration with info-nodes
