Eco crimes and Earth's cry: the power of environmental storytelling
DESCRIPTION
Environmental issues are complex, urgent, and deeply intertwined with policy, industry, and public health, and investigative journalism plays a crucial role in holding powerful entities accountable and informing the public. This panel brings together three journalists, grantees of Journalismfund Europe, who specialize in cross-border environmental investigations, to discuss their methodologies and the challenges in their work. They have covered critical topics such as ‘forever pollution’ by PFAS, the impact of air pollution in cities, and the environmental risks of everyday consumer products. Their techniques, ranging from data analysis to field research and collaborative reporting, offer valuable insights into how environmental crimes and negligence can be exposed, highlighting the importance of investigative approaches, cross-border collaborations, and large-scale environmental issues that affect all of Europe. This panel aims to equip attendees with a deeper understanding of investigative journalism’s methodologies, inspire new investigative efforts. Attendees will gain insight into investigative techniques that can be applied in various journalistic and research fields.
