It’s the greatest wildlife crime you’ve never heard of, a multi-billion-dollar global network smuggling a commodity worth more than cocaine: eels. Once abundant, eels are now threatened by overfishing and environmental change, while their mysterious life cycle and high value make them easy targets for illegal trade. In Europe, eel fishing is strictly regulated and exports are banned, but globally, the trade is centred in Asia, where eels are fattened on farms. This investigative documentary follows the journey of these tiny fish across continents, exposing the brutal and highly profitable network behind their illegal trade.
