Screening film EXTRA. With the director Igor Bezinović
DESCRIPTION
Introduction with director Igor Bezinović in conversation with Alberto Nerazzini and Francesca Coin.
DIRECTED BY: Igor Bezinović
YEAR: 2025
LENGTH: 112’
ICroatian director Igor Bezinović reconstructs the forced annexation of Fiume to Italy in 1924, using archival footage to tell the story of fascist rule from the perspective of the occupied. The film entrusts the voices of current residents of Fiume with reconstructing the sixteen-month occupation of the city by Gabriele D'Annunzio and his legionnaires. Blending documentary, fiction, and reenactment, Bezinović relies on the collective memory of the inhabitants of Rijeka to deconstruct the D'Annunzian "enterprise," enabling a critical awareness of the historical reality of Italian militarism and colonialism. Presented at numerous international festivals, the film has received major accolades, including the Tiger Award and the FIPRESCI Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival, establishing itself as one of the most original and striking documentary works of recent years.
