Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, federal constitutional protection for abortion rights ended in the United States. Since then, maternal mortality has risen in states that have banned abortion, while women are increasingly prosecuted for pregnancy-related “crimes” and public funding for abortion is being cut. At the same time, child marriage remains legal in 37 states, with hundreds of thousands of cases recorded since 2000. This documentary bears witness to the erosion of women’s rights in a country where religious conservatism is reshaping the lives and choices of millions.
