The digital oppression of Palestine. Surveillance and AI from occupation to war
DESCRIPTION
Israel is one of the most advanced countries in the world in terms of military and surveillance technologies and uses the occupied territories as a laboratory for its monitoring and control tools. Palestine is not only occupied in its territory, but also in its digital spaces, and technologies also play an increasing role in the war in the Gaza Strip. Independent investigations and enquiries have also revealed the role of artificial intelligence in the planning of attacks in the Strip by the Israeli armed forces, while Palestinian public discourse is constantly shadowbanned on social media. This panel will explore the technological repercussions of the war in Gaza and the occupation of the Palestinian territories by recounting how the digital plays an active role in oppression.
