Youngman Kim was twenty-one years old in 1979 when he arrived in New York from South Korea, where he opened a laundry where VHS films could occasionally be rented. The video trade turned out to be so profitable that it became his main business. Thus was born “Kim's Video”, a world apart, with five different shops in Manhattan where classics, experimental, B-series, European auteurs, avant-garde, genres mingled. A cinephile's paradise, which closed in 2007. In 2009, Kim gave it all to the institution that had guaranteed to preserve, digitise and leave the immense collection open to the public: the municipality of Salemi, Sicily, of which Vittorio Sgarbi was mayor. The authors start from this background to recount their search for the collection, buried in Salemi in neglect and oblivion. And its rescue, with the “complicity” of many film masters.

“Kim's Video” won the DIG Pitch in 2021 and was presented at the Sundance festival in 2023.
