“The Body Politic” follows the young, idealistic mayor of Baltimore in his tenure, where he puts his personal and political future on the line to save his beloved city from violence. Like many other areas in the United States, Baltimore City has been plagued by gun violence. During protests over the murder of George Floyd, Brandon Scott, a young reformist leader, is elected mayor. With unrestricted access, we follow him in his first year in City Hall. Brandon, who grew up in one of the city's most disadvantaged neighbourhoods, sets out with unwavering idealism to change the destiny of his beloved city by introducing an ambitious plan for violence reduction and police reform, choices he is sure will reduce the murder rate. However, after taking office and having just had the chance to implement his first security reforms, violence reaches new peaks. While the media and political enemies attack his plan, he remains true to his principles, even if it puts his political future at risk. The camera continues to follow Brandon to see if his plan will work, bringing serenity to Baltimore and perhaps even revealing a way forward for the entire country.
