Full documentary details
Her name and her story moved young people all over the world: Jina Mahsa Amini, aged 22, died on 16 September 2022 after being arrested by the religious police in Tehran. Her face, a symbol of the defence of fundamental civil rights in the country, triggered an uprising among Iranian youth, which was violently suppressed in the autumn of 2022. Following a wave of arrests and executions by the Islamic regime, the movement lost momentum. But it unleashed a quieter and, perhaps, impossible to stop revolution: the cultural change desired by Iran's Gen Z. An urban and highly educated youth, who find themselves deprived of their individual rights and freedoms: to love, to meet, to dress without restrictions, to dance, to sing. Through six stories told by witnesses under the age of twenty-five, the documentary "We, the Youth of Iran" gives us an unprecedented look at the transformations taking place in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
