A silence too quiet: the violence of power against investigative journalism
DESCRIPTION
Three voices, three countries—Mexico, France, and Italy—and a universal report, marked by the weight of attacks and threats, not only legal but also through smear campaigns, various forms of censorship, and self-censorship. It is still too high a price to pay for freedom and integrity. The discussion will also offer the chance to meet two exceptional DIG Festival 2025 guests and members of the international jury: Anabel Hernández, who risks her life to do her work, challenging political corruption and the power of narco cartels; and Edwy Plenel, appointed to chair the jury, whose fifty-year career has been marked both by attacks and by journalistic and editorial successes. Plenel co-founded and directed the digital outlet Mediapart from 2008 for sixteen years, maintaining independence and operating without advertising, surviving the crisis of the French press, and today stronger than ever.
