This investigative report reveals for the first time the use of forced sterilization – or sterilization without informed consent – in the province of Quebec, a procedure that continues to this day. Suffering this kind of abuse, since the 1980s, are almost exclusively indigenous women-which shows how ingrained racism is in the Canadian health care system. The documentary provoked a vehement reaction in Quebec’s National Assembly and forced Premier François Legault to pledge his commitment to the abolition of this coercive practice.
