The documentary tells the story of Daniel Aritonang, a young Indonesian man who died of malnutrition and harassment while working on board a Chinese fishing vessel. Through Daniel's story, journalists tell a broader story, revealing human trafficking and brutal working conditions on China-flagged ships. The footage in this video includes interviews with other Indonesian workers who met Daniel on the ship, the Zhen Fa 7, as well as several visits to Daniel's home village in Indonesia. «Daniel's Story» also takes us to Montevideo, Uruguay, where Daniel was abandoned by the ship's masters in an attempt to evade responsibility for his death.
