There was a time when Hong Kong was seen as the last stronghold of freedom in China. Today, a decade after the peaceful Umbrella Movement protests, the region appears fully subdued under Communist Party rule. The city now carries a dystopian atmosphere, with civil society crushed by the National Security Law imposed to silence dissent. Beijing’s grip is absolute: political opponents are imprisoned or driven into exile, the press is muzzled, and schools rewrite history to indoctrinate younger generations and mold new “Chinese patriots.” The documentary meets both sides of this ongoing struggle: activists fighting to reclaim lost freedoms and officials defending the Communist Party’s control over the former British colony.
