During his years as a minister in Bangladesh, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury managed to build a real estate empire worth half a billion dollars, despite earning little more than thirteen thousand a year as a public official. Al Jazeera’s investigative unit went undercover inside one of the former minister’s residences, uncovering how he secretly amassed hundreds of luxury properties in London, Dubai, and New York through money-laundering schemes enabled by powerful intermediaries. Now, Bangladeshi authorities have frozen his bank accounts and launched investigations into the allegations surrounding Chowdhury and his potential dirty dealings.
