The first appointment is for the 21 December at DIG headquarters in via Santa Chiara 14, Modenawith three meetings that will animate the venue from 17:30 until 23:30.

THE FULL PROGRAMME

17:30 This work is not life. Class struggle in the 21st century. The GKN case

The first, at 17:30, is the book presentation: 'This work is not life. Class Struggle in the 21st Century. The GKN case'. (Fuoriscena 2024), together with the authors Dario Salvetti and Gea Scancarello and to Alberto Nerazzini (DIG President) who introduced and moderated the meeting.

The book stems from the permanent assembly of the Gkn Factory Collective, which was born on 9 July 2021 when 422 employees of Gkn in Campi Bisenzio (Florence), a factory that produces axle shafts for the automotive industry, received an email informing them of the start of the collective dismissal procedure for cessation of activity.

Workers do not remain immobile in resignation, but react immediately, to defend a right and to protect their territory from relocation and impoverishment. Thus began the longest and most structured workers' struggle in decades.

A powerful and very fragile struggle, which on the one hand wants to oppose abuse and on the other hand initiates a hand-to-hand combat with capital of extraordinary strength and intensity. This book is not just the story of a single battle, but a manifesto about the class struggle in the 21st century. The presentation will be followed by an aperitif.

21.30 Journey into the criminal organisations of Central America

The second, at 21:30, will be a meeting with Federico Vespignani (photojournalist) and Philip Di Salvo (DIG) entitled 'Journey into the Criminal Organisations of Central America' and organised in collaboration as part of the festival programme ASSEDIO Countercultures and public spacemade by URBANER.

Photojournalist Vespignani will present "Por Aquí Todo Bienhis visual research on the 18th Street Gang (aka Barrio 18) in Honduras and 'Core' which investigates the phenomenon of narco-deforestation in forests in Honduras.

It will focus on criminal groups in Central America, a street gang operating at one level locally controlling poor neighbourhoods through extortion, local drug trafficking and contract killing, and on the other international cartels operating through corruption of the country's governmental apparatuses.

22.30 Imaginary Part: the live set

The day ends with a concert by Imaginary Partproduced in collaboration with Outer Sound System, at 10.30 p.m. and itself part of the ASSEDIO festival programme. Davide Cuoghi aka Imaginary Part is inspired by a mathematical notion for his solo project: in mathematics, complex numbers are composed of a real part and an imaginary part. Without the imaginary part they are purely real. Imaginary Part is an escape from reality that finds concrete form in a set of synthetic electronics ranging between ambient, braindance and experimental techno.

All events are free of charge and do not require registration.

With the first event of DIGressioni, Associazione DIG brings its venue to life beyond the days of its main festival, inviting its public to confront some of the main themes of its activities, opening its home to the public of Modena and beyond. Moreover, thanks to the collaboration with the ASSEDIO festival, the URBANER project and Outer Sound System, Associazione DIG further strengthens its roots in the city and in the cultural activities of the territory.

DIGressioni events will continue in 2025. We look forward to seeing you, diggers!
