Jake Hanrahan (born 1990) is a British journalist and documentary filmmaker. He mainly covers conflict, organised crime and counterculture and is known for his raw approach to his craft, with which he gains direct access to difficult contexts in order to report on them from the inside. Throughout his career he has worked in Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, Kurdistan and Palestine, written for VICE News, The Guardian, Rolling Stone and Wired and produced documentaries in Syria, Ukraine and elsewhere. In September 2015 he was arrested in Turkey while tracking a cell of YDG-H, the youth wing of the PKK, spending two weeks in a maximum security prison. In 2018, he founded Popular Front, a «no-frills, no-elitism» independent media company specialising in conflict journalism, which has become a cult phenomenon on Instagram.
